Artist Statement

The reasons for my art starts with a deep interest in modernism, in particular such painters as Kandinsky and Paul Klee, the architecture of Mies Van der Rohe, and the sculpture of artists such as Alexander Calder and Sol Lewitt.  I would also briefly add that Japanese art and in particular Zen calligraphy and the abstract circles of Tadasky have also deeply affected me.

With these interests swirling in my background, I one day just decided to draw "simply," "honestly," and with as much "clarity" as best I possibly could.  With these ink drawings I have aspired to create what Hild Rebay would call "non-objective" art or what Kandinsky modestly calls "Spiritual Exercises" for the soul.
